Program notes

Experience the second and final part of the Concerto Finale of the International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition, streamed live from the Auditorium of the Maison de la Radio! In the final round the contestants perform two violin concertos chosen among masterpieces of the repertoire by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Sibelius, and Haydn.

One of the oldest and most prestigious competitions in classical music, the biennial International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition has launched the careers of generations of young artists since its 1943 founding by French virtuosos pianist Marguerite Long and violinist Jacques Thibaud. The acclaimed French violinist Renaud Capuçon takes on the role of artistic director and jury president for the 2018 International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition for violin, leading a jury of outstanding musical artists and personalities.  This year, 44 young violinists compete for the first prize and the chance to win a brand-new violin made by the renowned French luthier Patrick Robin.
