Program notes

Meet with the most promising pianists of the young generation and watch them make their debuts live on medici.tv!

During the last two nights of the Honens International Piano Competition, five finalists are invite to perform a piano concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and its Music Director, Roberto Minczuk. Pianists may choose any concerto written after 1760. Obviously, jurors consider the choice and performance of a demanding concerto from the classical era equally with the choice and performance of a work composed later.

Honens International Piano Competition is an incredible opportunity for young pianists to win the Honens Prize, meaning the world's largest award of its kind–a $100,000 Enbridge Prize (cash) and an artistic and career development program valued at a half million dollars.

23 year-old pianist Pavel Kolesnikov won the First Prize at the 2012 Honens International Piano Competition of Calgary. He played the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto for the final round of the competition. This young musician, born in Novosibirsk in 1989, started studying music at the age of six, when he initially played the piano and the violin, which he drops ten years later to focus on his instrument. medici.tv congratulates all the laureates of the competition and wishes them good luck for their career... See your later!
