Program notes
The Concours de Genève, founded in 1939 as the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale (CIEM), is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious international music competitions. With the aim to discover, promote, and support young talented artists on the way to an international career, the Concours de Genève also has the distinction of spotlighting different disciplines in every edition. In 2022, pianists and composers have the chance to compete for the top prizes!
In this second semi-final piano round discover the nine remaining promising pianists, aged 16-28 and representing six different countries, in two chamber music works—one by Beethoven and another chosen from a list by Berg, Debussy, Liszt, Mussorgsky, Poulenc, Schoenberg, Wolf, and Zemlinsky. The competitors chosen to move on to the final round will take the stage at Geneva's famed Victoria Hall for a concerto performance with the world-class Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the direction of Maržena Diakun.
