Evgeny Kissin — Pianist

Program notes

A virtuoso among virtuosos lights up the stage of the Salle des Combins at the 2021 edition of the Verbier Festival! The awe-inspiring Evgeny Kissin performs Berg's single-movement Piano Sonata No. 1, selections by Soviet composer Tikhon Khrennikov, and Gershwin's timeless triptych of Preludes, before unveiling the second half of the program entirely dedicated to the poet of the piano. Chopin finds a worthy interpreter in the unerring and soulful Kissin, who begins with the exquisite Nocturne Op. 62 No. 1—one of the Polish master's final contributions to the genre he helped define—followed by the first three Impromptus. To close the evening on a triumphant note, Kissin performs the famed Polonaise Op. 53, ebullient and virtuosic and fittingly nicknamed “Heroic.”
