Program notes

A young and talented violinist, Esther Yoo was recently awarded the fourth prize at the Queen Elizabeth International Competition. Hear her live in-concert on medici.tv.

Still just 18, Esther Yoo is one of the rising stars of the violin. After her highly acclaimed debuts with conductors of international fame such as Sakari Oramo or Lorin Maazel, Esther Yoo plays in recital with the outstanding pianist Robert Koenig.

The programme features classic pieces of the repertoire, such as Mendelssohn's sonata, accompanied by a piano. But also, you will find in the concert rare gems, like the Ysaÿe score. The most famous pieces will surely be the Tartini sonata, of such intense virtuosity that it was named "The Devil's Trill," Paganini's two first Capricci and the Fantasy on a theme from Bizet's Carmen, arranged for solo violin by Franz Waxman. After her stunning performances at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, this is a recital not to be missed!
