The highly anticipated Young Euro Classic is back for an exceptional 2022 edition! Once again, some of the world's greatest youth orchestras are in the spotlight, headed by world-renowned conductors in thrilling programs guaranteed to delight. The festivities open with an unmissable concert that brings maestro Daniel Harding, the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, and cello virtuoso Alisa Weilerstein together at the Konzerthaus Berlin.

Weilerstein opens the program with a stellar rendition of Edward Elgar's epic, soul-stirring Cello Concerto in E Minor—a work that met with lukewarm reception upon its debut but soon found an unshakeable place in the canon thanks to legendary recordings by cellists like Jacqueline du Pré. Maestro and ensemble then move on to Mahler's endlessly expressive Symphony No. 5, juxtaposing sorrow and jubilation, reflective of the tumult in Mahler's personal life during the work's composition. Indeed, after a near-death scare following an intestinal hemorrhage, Mahler met his future wife Alma Schindler; his newfound hope for a life with her can be heard in the euphoric final Allegro…
