For 20 years the Berliner Philharmoniker have marked their founding in 1882 with a concert – every year at a venue of cultural importance in a different European city. In 1998, the Europakonzert took place at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, under the baton of the orchestra's musical director of the time: Claudio Abbado.
Joined by world-renowned Swedish ensemble Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the Swedish Radio Chamber Choir, they perform a programme including Richard Wagner's Overture to "The Flying Dutchman", Tchaikovsky's "The Storm", Claude Debussy's "Trois Nocturnes" and Giuseppe Verdi's "Quattro pezzi sacri"
