The Banff International String Quartet Competition is recognized as one of the premier chamber music competitions in the world. Established in 1983, the BISQC is a large celebration of chamber music in a festival format attracting enthusiastic capacity audiences. The previous winners of the BISQC include: the Dover Quartet (2013), the Cecilia String Quartet (2010), the Tinalley Quartet (2007), the Jupiter String Quartet (2004), the Daedalus Quartet (2001), the Miró Quartet (1998), the Amernet Quartet (1995), the St. Lawrence String Quartet (1992), the Manfred Quartet (1989), the Franciscan Quartet (1986) and the Colorado Quartet (1983).

The three finalists of the Competition are: the Rolston String Quartet (Canada), the Castalian String Quartet (UK) and the Tesla Quartet (Russia / South Korea / USA). They enter the final round presenting a complete Beethoven or Schubert quartet before a full house in Banff Centre’s Eric Harvie Theatre.

The Rolston String Quartet (Canada) is the First Prize Laureate of the 12th edition of the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
