Program notes

Savor sweet summer nights with Sir Antonio Pappano, the incomparable Joyce DiDonato, and NYO-USA! Journey with them through the captivating musical landscapes of Berlioz and Strauss: highlights include the latter’s Alpine Symphony, composed when he was hiking in the Alps.

Every summer, Carnegie Hall brings together brilliant young musicians from across the United States to create the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). After their successful audition and a three-week residency, this all-expenses-paid program offers young artists an international tour with performances in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls.
