Art has a unique power to speak loudly and clearly in support of causes that demand the world’s attention, and for Mutter, Choi, Babeshko, and Müller-Scott, their art is their voice. They perform two beloved standards of the chamber repertoire, beginning with Haydn’s String Quartet in E-flat Major—the first of the Op. 20 set that helped establish his reputation as the “father of the string quartet,” brimming with innovations in voicing, structure, counterpoint, and expressive power. Following a performance of Beethoven’s enchanting String Quartet in G Major, heavily influenced by Haydn, the four internationally esteemed musicians move on to Bach’s Air—tranquil and wistful, a clarion call for peace.

Message from Anne-Sophie Mutter:

”As the conflict in Ukraine is dramatically escalating, we urgently need to support the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. We need to help in any way possible to contain this humanitarian crisis.” Anne-Sophie Mutter.

With the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and neighbouring countries deteriorating rapidly, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) fear that millions of people face extreme hardship and suffering without improved access and a rapid increase in humanitarian assistance. The message of hope that Anne-Sophie and her quartet conveyed through music is a message that, through their work, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement brings to those affected by the conflict.
