A Russian conductor with a fiery temperament, Valery Gergiev is an unmissable figure on the world stage. Laureate of countless prizes and awards, he is notably famous for his performances on the podium of the Mariinsky Theatre. His tenure at the legendary venue began as Music Director in 1988, he is now the theatre's Artistic and General Director. A regular fixture at the Verbier Festival, he was named Music Director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra on the occasion of the event's 25th anniversary.
