Program notes

From June 11th-20th of this year, we have the pleasure of webcasting the XIII Moscow International Ballet Competition, live from the Bolshoi Theatre.

Held every four years since 1969, the Moscow International Ballet Competition has become one of the worldwide ballet community’s most prestigious and highly anticipated annual events, with superstars like Mikhaïl Barychnikov, Maria Alexandrova, and Patrice Bart counting among its honorees. Since 2001, a new contest for choreographers was added, giving rise to the event’s current three categories: choreographers, junior dancers, and senior dancers. The competition’s international jury is composed of celebrated representatives of ballet’s elite, including jury president Yuri Grigorovich, and artists like Marina Semenova, Maya Plisetskaya, Vladimir Vasiliev, and many others. Don’t miss this incredible celebration of the art of ballet—an event rooted in classical traditions and defined by an uncompromising standard of excellence— and the chance to experience tomorrow’s stars today!
