About

The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse is one of the most accomplished and admired French orchestras of our time. The ensemble's impeccable rapport and artistry, spearheaded first by Michel Plasson and then by Tugan Sokhiev, have earned it a level of renown that goes well beyond national borders. In 2024, Tarmo Peltokoski will officially begin his tenure as the orchestra's music director.

Aside from a rich symphonic season in the storied Halle aux Grains in Toulouse—not to mention operas and ballets at the Théâtre du Capitole—the ONCT is regularly invited to the most prestigious stages in France and all over the world while maintaining a strong local presence in the historical region of Occitania, which includes the south of France.

Canonical repertoire occupies an important place in the ensemble's yearly program, as does an exciting selection of rarely head works and contemporary compositions, often carried out in close collaboration with living artists. The ONCT is also committed to preserving French musical heritage through a partnership with the Fondation Bru-Zane.

The orchestra's rich discographie and frequent video streams speak to the excellence of their work. Recently, their interpretations of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8 and Saint-Saëns's La Princess Jaune (The Yellow Princess) were awarded, respectively, a "Diapason d'Or" (by the French music magazine Diapason) and a "Diamant d'Opéra Magazine".
