Mutter Virtuosi
About
The Mutter Virtuosi is a string orchestra made up of young foundation scholars and professional string players who are alumni of the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, a foundation for the development of global support for young, talented string soloists founded in Munich in 1997. Ms. Mutter has over the years frequently performed concerts with the Foundation’s scholarship students to introduce them to the life of a professional musician and to a broad audience. Since 2011 she has expanded that activity with the formation of Anne-Sophie Mutter & Mutter Virtuosi for touring projects.
The first European tour Anne-Sophie Mutter & Mutter Virtuosi in the Spring of 2011 toured to Vienna, Lucerne, Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Essen, Hannover, Friedrichshafen, and Wehr. They performed Mendelssohn's Octet, Vivaldi's Four Seasons and a commissioned Duo Concertante for Violin and Double Bass by Krzysztof Penderecki, performed by Ms. Mutter and the first Aida Stucki Award winner, Roman Patkoló.
Anne-Sophie Mutter feels strongly that her scholars and young professionals have the experience of traditional and new music and the experience of performing charity concerts for humanitarian causes: "I find it important that our young musicians are aware of their social responsibility as artists. Music is a gift to all, an opportunity of joint experience irrespective of origin, of doing something meaningful and placing yourself in the service of society as a musician."
The June 2013 Asian tour with the Virtuosi included the classics of Mendelssohn and Vivaldi as well as the World Premiere of a commissioned work of Sebastian Currier, Ringtone Variations for Violin and Double Bass performed by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Roman Patkoló.
Anne-Sophie Mutter performs as soloist and leader with Mutter Virtuosi in the United States and Canada in the Fall of 2014. Repertoire will include the classics of Mendelssohn and Vivaldi as well as the US premieres of 2 pieces: Andre Previn’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Currier’s Ringtone Variations for Violin and Double Bass.
Future tours of Anne-Sophie Mutter & Mutter Virtuosi include 2015 summer festivals in Europe, a German tour in April 2016 and performances in Asia in October 2016 to celebrate her 35th anniversary of her Japanese debut.
