Jakob Koranyi

About

Jakob Koranyi was born in 1983 and began his cello studies at the age of 6. In 1999 he enrolled at the Edsberg Chamber music Institute in Stockholm with Professor Torleif Thedéen as his teacher. He has since then completed his Bachelor Degree and Soloist Diploma at the same school, a Post Graduate in Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester with Professor Ralph Kirshbaum and a Konzertexamen at Hochschule für Musik in Köln with Professor Frans Helmerson.

Jakob has also been to many masterclasses and music festivals where he worked with teachers like Boris Pergamenshikov, Heinrich Schiff, Gary Hoffman, Janos Starker, Paul Katz and many more. Koranyi has been awarded many prizes and scholarships during his studies.

During the Verbier Academy 2006 he was also awarded the Firmenich Prize and the Prix d’Honneur. Jakob is currently playing a 1742 Domenico Montagnana which has been kindly put at his disposal by the Swedish Järnåker Foundation.
