Guy Vivien is a photographer, particularly renowned for his work on the contemporary musicians' worlds. A self-taught and independent artist, he starting building up his collection over 20 years ago: his work now appear as a true testimony of the artistic and musical life of his time. His pictures display over 200 composers (Iannis Xénakis, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Gyorgy Ligeti, Luciano Berio, Georges Aperghis, Henri Dutilleux, Witold Lutoslawski...) as well as many interpreters, notably, Gustav Leonhardt, Ivan Fischer, Fabio Biondi, Leif Ove Andsnes, Felicity Lott, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet...
Guy Vivien also portrayed jazz musicians (Christian Escoudé, Tigran Hamasyan, Laurent de Wilde, ...), choreographers (Charles Cré-Ange), writers and poets (Alberto Moravia)...
Among his main collaboration, let's quote the SACEM, the Fondation Royaumont, the Festival d’Automne, Radio France, the Cité de la Musique, the Caen Auditorium, the Orchestre national de Lyon, the Festival Estival de Paris, the Festival d’Art Sacré, the Biennale Bordeaux-Madrid, the Orchestre de Monte Carlo, Les Arts Florissants, the Musiciens du Louvre but also the national and international press, lots of music labels ( Radio France, Harmonia Mundi, Naïve, Nocturne, Musidisc, … ) as well as the Réunion des Musées Nationaux. He regularly exhibits in France (Paris, Bordeaux, Caen, Lyon, Strasbourg, Marseille, Clermont Ferrand, …) and abroad (Los Angeles, Liège).
Several books gather works by Guy Vivien: Musique en Tête (éditions Michel de Maule, 1987), Rêveurs d’inouï (P.O. éditions, 1996), Gens de musique (éditions Musicora, 1999), Gens de musiques - tome 2 (éditions Musicora, 2001), Portraits d’Artistes (éditions Créaphis 2004 ). Guy Vivien also collaborated with the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, the Sylvie Messinger collection, Broderies Marocaines / Tableaux de pierres dures / Présence de l’Icône / Rite et Beauté, (1991-1993), L’Âge d’Or des Arts décoratifs (1991), Le Roi Salomon et les Maîtres du Regard (1992)...
