You are cordially invited to the wedding of Orphée and Eurydice! Take a glass and enjoy the show. But don’t be fooled, death itself will also inevitably make an appearance to afflict the couple with their tragic fate… At Bordeaux’s Pulsations festival, Raphaël Pichon and his Pygmalion Ensemble offer a new, immersive way to experience Gluck’s famous opera Orphée et Eurydice (in its 1859 reworked version by Hector Berlioz). At Halle 47, a disused concrete- and iron-work warehouse, the carefree, exuberant atmosphere of the wedding is soon exchanged for one of shock and despair when Eurydice is found dead. Blandine de Sansal and Jacquelyn Stucker perfectly embody the two principal roles alongside an orchestra and choir at the height of their artistic abilities in this innovative, poetic production directed by Eddy Garaudel.
