Dresden Music Festival (The festival)

The festival

Renowned orchestras, multi-faceted chamber music, internationally celebrated soloists – engaging in a dialogue between the important and influential voices on the international classical music scene and Dresden’s rich cultural landscape, the Dresden Music Festival, founded in 1978, presents a high-carat program of extraordinary depth and versatility every year. About 20 performance venues rich in atmosphere, from baroque buildings to the modern architecture of a factory, create unique combinations of space and music and offer possibilities of creative, vivid concepts.

Since the 2009 season, Jan Vogler has been Artistic Director of the Dresden Music Festival. In this position he supports the idea of tolerance and the encounter of people from all over the world in Dresden through the power of music. It is his vision to spread the reputation of the Music Festival around the world and "to establish Dresden as one of the most prestigious festival cities".

Cooperation projects with such renowned Dresden institutions like the Sächsische Staatskapelle, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Kreuzchor, but also the State Art Collections Dresden or the State Theatre Dresden, round out this picture. Thus, beyond its deep roots in the city, the Festival has developed into a major attraction for concertgoers from all around the world. Its unique cultural and historical surroundings are another reason why the Festival city of Dresden has become one of the most attractive destinations in cultural tourism.
