Program notes

Janine Jansen, Torleif Thedéen, Martin Fröst, and Lucas Debargue—some of the greatest soloists of their generation—play Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time), a work he composed while captive in a German prisoner-of-war camp from 1940 to 1941. Inspired by the Bible's Book of Revelation, Messiaen references the Angel of the Apocalypse's announcement of the End of Time: "There shall be time no longer.”
