Program notes

Under the direction of Gautier Capuçon, the Classe d'Excellence de Violoncelle returns for its third season to the Fondation Louis Vuitton auditorium.

The Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle offers an international group of six cellists (selected through auditions in France and abroad) the opportunity to grow as individual artists and as professional musicians under the guidance of Gautier Capuçon and the pianist Samuel Parent.

French cellist Gautier Capuçon is one of the most accomplished musicians on his instrument in today's classical music world. He collaborates regularly with conductors like Lionel Bringuier, Myung-Whun Chung, Gustavo Dudamel, Charles Dutoit, Semyon Bychkov, Leonard Slatkin, and Valery Gergiev. He performs regularly as a soloist with today's leading orchestras and in various international festivals. He has won numerous prizes and awards throughout his career, including the Premier Grand Prix of the Concours International André Navarra in Toulouse, was named 'New Talent of the Year' by Victoires de la Musique in 2001, and multiple ECHO Klassik awards (most notably in 2012 for his recording with Valery Gergiev).
