Program notes

In 2006, the Mozart22 project took place in honor of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. It was a major project to recreate the twenty-two operas and oratorios composed by Mozart. This documentary goes behind the scenes of the production of Ascanio in Alba at that time.

The Salzburg Festival of 2006 gathered the best specialists of the Mozart repertoire - singers, conductors and directors - to interpret this unique selection of works.

Don Alfonso, convinced of his theory that women are unfaithful, persuades his two friends Ferrando and Guglielmo, respectively engaged to Dorabella and Fiordiligi, to test the loyalty of the latter. His plan is simple: young men should pretend an inevitable departure to war and return to their fiancées disguised as young and beautiful soldiers to seduce them...

This series of interviews involves the two directors (Ursel and Karl-Ernst Herrmann), the brilliant Sophie Koch (mezzo-soprano) and the internationally acclaimed baritone Stéphane Degout, and the Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck. This documentary takes us into the secrets of the production of the famous comic opera by Mozart created in 1790
