This concert features Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5 (played by Olli Mustonen) as well as pieces by Mozart and Widmann performed by the Münchner Philharmoniker.
The Münchner Philharmoniker and Music Director Valery Gergiev, invite clarinetist and composer Jörg Widmann whose work Con brio open the concert. Widmann will then perform as a soloist in Mozart's Clarinet Concerto. The concert closes with Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5, the last of the five Piano Concerti the composer ever wrote. It is performed by Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen.
5 soloists, 2 orchestras, 1 conductor will play during this special musical marathon, scheduled as part of the MPHIL 360° and revolving around Prokofiev's five Piano Concerti. This event is organized by the Münchner Philharmoniker. The Prokofiev Piano Concerti are performed by five different pianists: Herbert Schuch, Denis Matsuev, Behzod Abduraimov, Alexei Volodin and Olli Mustonen. These soloists are joined by the Münchner Philharmoniker and the Mariinsky Orchestra, both led by Valery Gergiev. This program features Prokofiev's five Piano Concerti as well as other classical and contemporary pieces.
