Program notes

Playing the violin and conducting the orchestra: Pinchas Zukerman is the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra's guest!

This concert is a perfect opportunity to travel through centuries with a programme ranging from baroque to contemporary music! The first step to this particular journey is Hindemith's Trauermusik, a funeral piece dedicated to the memory of the King George V of the United Kingdom. Then will be performed Vivaldi's Concerto for violin and cello. If the "Red Priest" was a virtuoso violinist, this concerto has the characteristic to leave a very special and important place to the cello part, here interpreted by Amanda Forsyth. Following this double concerto, Pinchas Zukerman stays on the violin to perform Mozart's elegant Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, and then conducts the orchestra in Schubert's Fifth Symphony.
