Program notes

Live on medici.tv, the new star of the Russian piano Daniil Trifonov, pays tribute to the women of Scriabin, Liszt and Chopin!

This piano recital gathers three pieces by Scriabin, Liszt and Chopin. All three were written during or in souvenir of a love story. Scriabin dedicated his Sonata Fantasy No. 2 to his first love, Natalya Sekerina. Liszt wrote his unique sonata – the Sonata in B Minor – while he was sharing his life in Weimar with the Polish-Russian princess Carolyne de Sayn-Wittgenstein. Eventually, the 24 preludes by Chopin, inspired by Bach's Well-tempered clavier, were composed during his vacation in Mallorca with George Sand and her children...

The fascinating 21 year-old pianist Daniil Trifonov has already been rewarded with some of the most prestigious prizes: the 3rd prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the 1st prize at the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, and the 1st prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. It is his second appearance at the Verbier Festival, after last year's concerts which earned him praise from the audience and the critics.
