Program notes

Charles Dutoit, the iconic musical director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, opens the 2012 edition of the festival!

After an inaugural Euryanthe Overture by Weber, Charles Dutoit is joined by the most famous brothers on the French classical music scene: the Capuçon brothers performing the Double concerto by Brahms. Renaud (violin) and Gautier Capuçon (cello) play this masterpiece of the concert repertoire, the composer's last orchestral score, a very bold one at that time.

Last but not least, the monumental Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky, tragic with the introduction of its Andante on clarinet and light with his highly lyrical waltz.

Renaud and Gautier Capuçon appear with the courtesy of Virgin Classics.
