Program notes

The 2012 edition of Annecy Classic Festival kicks off on medici.tv!

Charles Dutoit, who already performed live on medici.tv this summer at the Verbier Festival, is back on stage! In Annecy he will conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – of which he is Artistic Director since 2009. Founded over sixty years ago, the London-based orchestra – one of the greatest international orchestras – enjoys a worldwide reputation for offering a wide range of repertoire during frequent tours and for his phenomenal Music Directors, including Rudolf Kempe, Antal Dorati, André Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Yuri Temirkanov. In Annecy, the orchestra and its conductor will perform Berlioz' Corsaire Overture, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, and the famous New World Symphony by Dvořák.

Medici.tv members will enjoy this new opportunity to watch again pianist Denis Matsuev, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, a masterpiece in piano concerto literature. Matsuev is also the co-artistic director of Annecy Festival Classic. Nicknamed as the "Siberian Bear" by the critics because of his powerful interpretations, he is renowned for his virtuosity which BBC Music Magazine recently described as 'fantastic'. In a few years, Matsuev has become one of the most sought-after musician on the international concert stage.
