"Soon, symphonies will be the only works by me to be published and listened to" Schumann wrote in a letter dated April 14 1839 to Heinrich Dorn, with whom he studied composition. He added: "I often want to crush my piano; it has become too narrow for my ideas. I admit I do not have much experience in writing for orchestras yet, but I think I will learn how to master it."
The program of this concert will present Schumann's Symphony n°4 and Symphony n°1 the "Spring Symphony ," considered a masterpiece of the Romantic repertoire. Gautier Capuçon, guest soloist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, will perform Schumann's Cello concerto.
This concert will be broadcast on www.citedelamusiquelive.tv and medici.tv. It will also be available in live radio retransmission on France Musique.
