ICA Classic: A Collection of Historical Performances and Rare Footage

LIVE and LEGACY

Launched early in 2011, ICA Classics has established a reputation as a high quality record label, dedicated to releasing both archive and more recent material from sources such as the BBC, WDR Cologne and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The LEGACY series of CDs and DVDs features a collection of historical performances by some of the world’s greatest artists whilst the LIVE series presents concerts from major conductors on the International Classical Artists’ roster recorded in prestigious venues around the world. The label also boasts a number of successful dance DVD titles featuring rare footage from stars such as Margot Fonteyn, Michael Somes, Nadia Nerina and Svetlana Beriosova.

With material recorded between 1953 and 2010, the majority of the CDs and DVDs are enjoying their first commercial release. Awards include several Diapasons d’Or, two Gramophone Award nominations, as well as the Toblacher Komponierhäuschen International Mahler prize and a Choc de Classica.

The ICA Classics team has been instrumental in the success of many audio and audiovisual productions over the years including the origination of the DVD series The Art of Conducting, The Art of Piano and The Art of Violin; the archive based DVD series Classic Archive; co-production documentaries featuring artists such as Richter, Fricsay, Mravinsky and Toscanini; the creation of the BBC Legends archive label, launched in 1998 (now comprising more than 250 CDs), and the audio series Great Conductors of the 20th Century produced for EMI Classics.

In the digital domain ICA partners the world’s leading digital platform for broadcasting live concerts via the internet - medici.tv - in providing expertise in artistic services and programming. By reaching beyond the concert hall, medici.tv and ICA are helping bring live classical performances of the highest calibre to a diverse audience, helping shape the future of classical music.
