About

Lianna Haroutounian is considered as one of the most promising Verdi sopranos of her generation.

Her significant lyrical-spinto abilities allow her to address a wide Opera Repertoire, facing Verdi and Puccini as the French and the Russian Repertoire, and also a wide Chamber Music Repertoire. Lianna Haroutounian is from Armenia, she grew up in an opera-loving family and studied Pianoforte and Voice at the National Conservatory of Erevan where she passed her Higher Education Singing Diploma in S. Danelian’s class and later in France at the Centre de Formation Lyrique de l’Opéra-Bastille, working with Janine Reiss, James Vaughan and Robert Kettelson among others.She took part in several Master Classes with Christa Ludwig, Yvonne Minton, Luigi Alva, Yevgeny Nesterenko and Renata Scotto. Recently Armenian soprano made her triumphant debut with the ROH Covent Garden in summer 2013, stepping in at late notice to sing Elizabeth of Valois in Don Carlo, under the baton of Mr. Antonio Pappano, beside Jonas Kauffman and Ferruccio Furlanetto . After that she was immediately invited to perform the role of Hélène in Les Vêpres siciliennes (the 2013/14 Season) at the Royal Opera House, again under the baton of Anthony Pappano . Her operatic appearances have included Desdemona/Otello at the Teatro San Carlo of Neaples, under the baton of Nicola Luisotti, Elizabeth of Valois in Don Carlo, at the Opernhaus Zürich, under the baton of Fabio Luisi, Hélène (Les Vêpres Siciliennes) at Frankfurt Opera and at the ABAO of Bilbao, Elena (I vespri siciliani) at the GNO of Athens, Leonora (Il trovatore) in Marseilles, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) in Bern and Tours, Marguerite (Faust) at the Opéra de Massy, Salud (La vida breve) in Toledo and Alicante, Desdemona (Otello) in the Amphithéâtre of the Opéra-Bastille of Paris, Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) and Mimì (La bohème) in Tours , Violetta (La Traviata) and Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) at the Festival de Sanxay and the Verdi Gala at the Royal Opera House of Muscat in cooperation with Teatro San Carlo of Neaples .A French review wrote about her as follows: Lianna Haroutounian’s Violetta reaches a rare encompassing perspective actually credits her between the greatest Traviata of our time.Haroutounian performs widely in Recital and in Concert, her Repertory including Verdi’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite Messe solennelle, Poulenc’s Stabat Mater , Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Requiem. She performs in numerous recitals in France , Italy , Spain , Armenia … She was given numerous rewards in one of the greatest International singing competition :« Verdi » Special Prize at 6th Jaume Aragall International Singing Competition in Spain, 1st Prize at 2nd Arlesian Lyrical Forum in France , 1st Prize and Renata Tebaldi Special Prize at International Competition “ Riviera Adriatica” in Porto Recanati2nd Prize at « Valsesia Musica » in Varallo, 3rd Prize at International Singing Competition « Vincenzo Bellini » in Caltanissetta (Italie).Special Prize at « Iris Adami Corradetti » International Competition in Padova, Finalist at « Voci Verdiane » International Singing Competition in Busetto.

Her future projects include: Desdemona/Otello at the Sydney Opera House (conducted by Christian Badea), Elisabeth of Valois in Don Carlos at the Festival de Verbier (conducted by Daniel Harding), Opera Gala at the Festival d’Annecy, Leonora in Il Trovatore at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli (conducted by Nicola Luisotti ), the title role in Tosca at the San Francisco Opera (conducted by Riccardo Frizza), Elisabeth of Valois in Don Carlos, her Debut at the Metropolitan Opera of New York, Mimi /La Bohème at the Royal Opera House...
