Iulia Maria Dan

About

Soprano Iulia Maria Dan was born in Romania and graduated from the National University of Music in Bucharest, as a student of Maria Slatinaru-Nistor. In 2011 she became a member of the Opernstudio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she is now a member of the Ensemble.

Iulia received a Special Award for Most Promising Young Artist at the renowned Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition in Vienna,2011, where she was also awarded the Graz Opera Special Prize, and the Soroptimist Prize. In the same year, she debuted with great success as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Romanian National Opera.

In the 2013/2014 season of the Bavarian State Opera, she will perform as Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Dama di Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth.

In 2012/13, her performances included Hans Werner Henze’s Elegie für junge Liebende , as Hilda Mack ( received with great reviews), Jano in Janáček’s Jenůfa, Papagena in The Magic Flute, the Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Contessa di Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Echo in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos and Füchslein Schlaukopf in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.

As a student, she performed as Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Giulietta in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, and Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart’s The Impresario.She also participated in Masterclasses with Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Ileana Cotrubas and Eva Marton.

Iulia won the Grand Prize at the Ionel Perlea National Song Competition in 2010, and Second Prize at the Hariclea Darclee International Singing Competition in Romania. In addition, in 2010 she won a Special Prize at the Masters of the Lyrical Art International Competition – Arta Florescu in Bucharest. In 2008 she won First Prize in the Orange Young Musicians Competition, First Prize in the Romanian Song Festival and Competition, Special Prize for "Interpretation of Music by Mozart" in the Mihail Jora – Dinu Lipatti National Competition, and Special Prize for "Chamber Music Style – Martha Joja" in the International Song Festival and Competition Ionel Perlea.

Iulia Maria Dan has peformed in concerts in Bucharest, Modena, Gdansk, Milan and Munich. In 2010, she sung the Soprano solo in the world premiere of acclaimed Romanian composer Felicia Donceanu’s Salbe – Monodrama for Soprano and Orchestra at the Bucharest Radio Hall. Her performances also include many song and aria recitals, including at the Romanian Athaeneum. Iulia Maria Dan is fluent in Romanian, English, French, Italian and German.
