Charles Dekeyser

About

Charles Dekeyser (Ghent, 1986), studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles where he attented the classes of bass baritone Marcel Vanaud. He took singing classes from Dina Grossberger, Martine Reyners and Jocelyne Dienst. In 2008 he was nominated as laureate at the ‘Concours National de Chant de Verviers-Prix Jacques Dôme’ and in June 2010, he obtained the certificate of ‘Laureate of the Flanders Opera Studio, voice option’.

He receives a scholarship granted by Schelstraete Delacourt Associates. In 2014 he is admitted to the Queen Elisabeth Competition Voice where he becomes semi-finalist. During his artistic training, he takes master classes from Nadine Denize, Graham Johnson, Sarah Walker, Micaela van Gegerfelt and Pietro Rizzo. As laureate at the ‘Académie européenne de musique du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence”, he participates in master classes with Susanna Eken, Sarah Connolly and Jean-Yves Ruf. In 2013 he is admitted by ENOA (European network of opera academies) to participate in workshops with Nelly Miricioiu at the Latvian National Opera in Riga (Latvia). In Aldeburgh (G.B.) he participates in master classes with Christoph Prégardien and Malcolm Martineau and later this year in master classes with Helmut Deutsch.

He sings several opera roles : Figaro, Bartolo and Antonio in Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Colline in La Bohème (Puccini) and participates in several productions of the Flanders opera studio. For this opera studio he impersonates the characters of La Mort in La Mort au Bal masqué and of Melisso in Alcina (Händel). At the Opera Royal de Wallonie in Liège, and at the Opera of Rouen, he impersonates the character of Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), a character he enacts again in the Flanders Opera Studio in December 2012. In 2010 he makes his debut at the Vlaamse Opera, in the role of L’Ombra di Nino in Semiramide (Rossini) conducted by Alberto Zedda. In 2011 he is invited by La Monnaie in Les Huguenots (Meyerbeer) conducted by Mark Minkowski and in 2012 he sings in Lulu (Berg).

In 2013, Charles sings at the’ Gala Concert soloists Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel’ the Mass No. 1 (Schubert), with the National Belgian Orchestra conducted by Sir Christopher Warren Green (Bozar Brussels). Again with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre, he sings Mozart's Mass in C minor, Bach cantates in Japan and in several European concert halls. Also with Marc Minkowski he sings Les huit scènes de Faust by Berlioz (MC2 Grenoble). Then, at the Vlaamse Opera, he sings Scènes de Faust with soprano Liesbeth Devos and Lucas Blondeel, pianist.

At the Festival de Wallonie, with the soloists of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, he participates in the concert l'Amour à la Chapelle, l'amour dans la musique. With Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre, he sings Bach’s Mass in B minor in Essen, Amsterdam and Lausanne, concert that he performs again in Vienna March 2014. He also impersonates the role of Paulus in Paulus by Mendelssohn with the Brussels Philarmonic and Vlaams Radio Koor conducted by Almo Volmer (Flagey, Brussels). With the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and Collegium Vocale Gent, he sings as soloist in Mozart's Great Mass, conducted by Christian Arming. At La Monnaie, with the Orchestre symphonique de la Monnaie conducted by Ludovic Morlot, he sings as soloist in the concertante Pulcinella of Stravinsky, concert that was taken again during the Christmas Concert 2013 at the Royal Palace. In July 2014 at the Verbier Festival, he will perform Beethoven's Fidelio and Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust.
