Zoltán Kocsis conducts Liszt and Dvořák – With Denis Matsuev
St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Zoltán Kocsis will meet again the pianist Denis Matsuev with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra for a night dedicated to Liszt and Dvořák.
Musical director of the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997, Zoltán Kocsis is also known for his talents as a pianist and for his compositions. Trained at the Franz Liszt Academy, he is one of the most renowned interpreters of the Hungarian composer. It is thus not surprising to find him again conducting the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra for a program dedicated to the Master and the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.
Pianist Denis Matsuev, very familiar with medici.tv since his beginnings at the Verbier Festival in 2011, sets himself apart by his powerful playing and his unrivalled agility serving musical works just as virtuoso. The Preludes, symphonic poem of the composer, will be performed, but also the Piano Concerto in A Major No. 2, requiring very thorough skills, as well as the dark Totentanz. Dvořák will finally end up this evening on a cheerful and poetic note with the Slavonic Dances Op.46.
