Yemen, The lost film
Impressions from Yemen

The adventures of two young filmmakers in search of their lost film in Yemen.

"It all starts with an e-mail: On May 22, 2000, a copy of our first feature film, Autour de la maison rose, disappeared in Yemen in strange circumstances. It was an historical day, that of the tenth anniversary of the reunification of the South and North Yemen. As Lebanese filmmakers, we make films in a part of the world that isn’t much concerned about the cinema and doesn’t really encourage images, apart from the official image of the regime. We were therefore very much surprised. Someone in Yemen had taken an interest in our first feature film to the extent of stealing a copy… A year later, we went in search of the lost film…"

Then follows an adventure that takes the two young filmmakers from Sana’s to Aden, along the road used by the bus that transported the copy of the film the day it disappeared. They go to the movie theatres where the film was shown, to the archives where the reels spent the night. But rather than a film on Yemen, "The film turns out to be a film in Yemen, a film made of bits of stories that happened to us in this country and which call us into question in a rather funny ways". Funny and surprising, when at the end of this "investigation", they discover what became of the copy of Autour de la maison rose.
