Born on July 6, 1937 in Russia, Vladimir Ashkenazy leaves his native country at the age of 26. He is covered in glory by his successive successes at the great international piano competitions (Chopin Competition in 1955, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1956, and the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1962). Vladimir Ashkenazy quickly becomes one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, in Eastern Europe and around the world.
