Viaggio a Reims – Stage director: Alain Maratrat
Staged by Alain Maratrat. Conductor: Valery Gergiev
At the Hotel of the Golden Fleur-de-lis, the most important people of Europe are on their way to the coronation of French king Charles X. But the luggages are lost, the horses are missing, and the love stories are taking the little hotel by storm... And no one will get to Reims!
At the Théâtre du Châtelet, Valery Gergiev conducts a brilliant cast made up of young singers from the Mariinsky Theatre's Academy. Alain Maratrat stages Rossini's last Italian opera, premiered in Paris in 1825, and composed for the coronation of Charles X. The director's highly original and clever production of Il Viaggio a Reims, developed over several seasons by the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Mariinsky Theatre, took both theatres by storm.

In the press:
"A bubbly, spiritual spectacle…" (Le Figaro)"The depth of talent that the Mariinsky Academy and Gergiev have formed is impressive. Many major opera houses would hesitate before programming a Rossini opera that demands so many expert Rossinians. The academy miraculously managed to double cast the work."
