24 Hours with Laurence Equilbey

Mendelssohn and Fauré in Belgrade

Exclusive images of Laurence Equilbey conducting her ensemble Accentus.

In 2011, Laurence Equilbey celebrated the 20th anniversary of her choir the Ensemble Accentus, on this occasion the musicians were invited on a Latin-American tour. We meet the conductor at her return in Europe, in Belgrade where she has been invited to play with her choir for the Bemus festival.

Mendelssohn's unfinished oratorio Cristus and Fauré's Requiem are very dear to Laurence Equilbey. This documentary was shot between performances of those works and also features images from the rehearsal of Schumann's Ultimate Ballads. Her collaborations with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and with Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen, of which she has been the resident conductor since 1998, illustrate her passion.

She is also a visual-arts lover and we follow her in a Parisian art gallery where she explains how she links her musical research to that of a painter or sculptor, searching for the right matter and the balance between technique and artistic inspiration.
