Tugan Sokhiev conducts Mahler: Symphony No. 6, "Tragic"
Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse
Following Mahler's Resurrection Symphony in March 2012, Tugan Sokhiev conducts the composer's Sixth live on medici.tv.
Mahler himself called him "tragic". It is one of those symphonies in which the orchestra alone expresses, as Schoenberg called it, the "sublime in resignation". The Sixth Symphony is a masterpiece of tragic beauty. The score is built like the combat of a life, with furious struggles and peaceful respites, until the final resignation.
