The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France performs Manoury and Dusapin
With Pascal Rophé (conductor) and the Arditti Quartet
The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Arditti Quartet give the French premiere of two works composed by the contemporary composers Philippe Manoury and Pascal Dusapin.
Following the concert of the 8th of November dedicated to Saint-Saëns, Debussy, and Messiaen (still available on medici.tv, but not for long!), the first 2014-season concert of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France broadcast live on medici.tv will continue this chronological journey through the French music of the 20th and 21st centuries with two composers of the present time: Philippe Manoury and Pascal Dusapin.
Leading figure on the international scene, Philippe Manoury has already opened a new chapter in music history with his research at the IRCAM (Paris, France) on the creative possibilities of live electronic music, paving thus the way for many younger composers. The famous Arditti Quartet, specialized in contemporary music, will here perform the French premiere of Manoury's String Quartet No.3, "Melencolia", work influenced by the electronic technique and sonorities, but composed for an acoustic formation, and drawing its inspiration from Albrecht Dürer's engraving Melencolia I.
A prolific composer with a great number of pieces in his catalogue, Pascal Dusapin has received numerous international prizes, including the French prize "Victoire de la Musique" and the Dan David International Prize. Second high-time of the evening, the Arditti Quartet along with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio Frace will perfom the French premiere of Dusapin's Hinterland for string quartet and orchestra. This concert will conclude with another of his work, Khôra for string orchestra, composed in 1993.
The picture was taken during the concert of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali on the 19th of April, 2013, at the Cité de la Musique, broadcast live on medici.tv.
