Doctor Atomic, Adams – Opera – Live
Patrick Davin, Lucinda Childs – Opéra national du Rhin
Don't miss the brand new French production of John Adams and Peter Sellars' opera, a live broadcast from the Opéra national du Rhin!
Doctor Atomic is John Adam's portrait of the atomic bomb's inventor, a mad scientist at the time of the first nuclear tests. After J. Robert Oppenheimer (Dietrich Henschel), the world would never be the way it used to be, as it shifted towards a new age: the nuclear era. Terrified by her husband's project, Kitty Oppenheimer (Anna Grevelius) is left alone and reflects on the contradictions of peace, war, and love.
This opera focuses on contemporary and universal issues, denounciating the fall of the modern world, including love stories and broken hearts. The libretto, written by Peter Sellars, borrows texts from poets such as Charles Baudelaire, John Donne and Muriel Rukeyser.
Doctor Atomic was premiered at the San Francisco Opera in 2005, and is today the brand new French production of the Opéra national du Rhin for its 2013-2014 season. With the participation of the Chœurs de l'OnR, Chœurs de l'OSM, the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse and fantastic artists, this masterpiece is a must see, on medici.tv
