Ambronay Festival

The Ambronay Festival

Founded in 1980 by the organization Art et Musique d'Ambronay managed by Alain Brunet, the Ambronay Ancient Music Festival takes place every autumn in the gorgeous abbey of the city. The festival quickly became a meeting point for the greatest specialists of the repertoire, among whom we can quote William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques, Hervé Niquet, Paul McCreesh, Jordi Savall and René Jacobs. All of them participate in making the Ambronay Festival an internationally reknowned event.

In 1993, the festival opened its own academy, the Académie baroque européenne, which aims at selecting and training young and promising talents. The academy, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, has been named "Cultural Ambassador" of the European Union.

Inseparable from the abbey in which it was born, the Ambronay Festival is at the origin of the restoration and the maintenance of this unique architectural monument, built during the 8th century under Charlemagne. Since 2003, it is the Centre culturel de rencontre d'Ambronay's address. The Centre culturel de rencontre d'Ambronay is dedicated to various activities around ancient music and performing arts.
