Christian Zacharias - one of today’s most distinguished pianists – launched his conducting career, debuting with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in 1992, and since then has been regularly invited to all renowned European orchestras. In the year 2000, he made his US conducting debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time in 2006.

Since September 2000, Christian Zacharias has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Furthermore, he has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 2002/2003. Starting with the season 2009/2010, Christian Zacharias is involved in the conduct of St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as an "Artistic Partner" for a period of three seasons.

Together with Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne Christian Zacharias has realised his first opera production – Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito – at the Geneva Opera House in 2006. In December 2008 Jacques Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène followed. At the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra’s annual Mozart Festival, Christian Zacharias holds the position of Artistic Director.

In January 2007, he received the Midem Classical Award “Artist of the year” in Cannes.
